28 Cork Street
Based in Kyushu, the southern island of Japan, Makoto’s celebrated ceramics are a fusion of design and heartwarming motifs making each object a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art. His hand produced and decorated works are designed with a variety of plants and animals remembered from his childhood. They speak of whimsy and elegance and an almost quixotic sense of a fleeting pleasure somehow caught. Makoto first showed with us at Messums Wiltshire as part of a collaboration with John Julian Ceramics where he was decorating plates for a joint show of their work. We are delighted to represent Makoto’s work exclusively in Europe and to be hosting his second ever solo show on Cork Street.
If you are interested in acquiring a work by Makoto, works will be published in advance of the show and available to purchase on the opening day in the gallery, limited to two per person. Works can be viewed and reserved online from 10 March, preference given to those arriving at the gallery on 18 March with telephone and online orders taken from 2pm on Wednesday 18 March. Click on the ‘Preview Tickets’ button to book your place if you wish to come to the gallery on 18 March.
