Howling at The Universe, a Homage to Kurt Schwitters

Screen printed porridge on black paper
Edition 1 of 6
2009
H 120 x 100 cm

The context for this mushroom spore work was the artist Kurt Schwitters who was the first installation artist. Interned on the Isle of Man during the war, he used to stick his head out of his cell window at night and howl like a wolf. At breakfast he would collect all the unwanted porridge in a bucket and use the material to make sculpture. Eventually they would rot and ouse down through the floorboards into the cell beneath. The work uses the same screen as Boletus Circle and I actually used Readybrek as a finer material.
