Knepp – Spring dawn mist and frost

Oil on panel

27 x 30.5 cm

‘The dawn symphony that breaks every day at Knepp is an extraordinary experience, especially as one is hearing an intensity of bird song in Britain that has not been experienced since the 19th C. Yet one more gentle sanding away of our preconceptions of what is the norm in the landscape.

This picture was painted in the southern block looking over the wild hedge at the edge of pasture where red deer were grazing and passing me as I stood in the freezing mist’
