‘Knepp lies in a plain and walking over the traces of these fields on a cloud shadowed day, the ranks of old hedge rows are a striking feature. These hedges have long since erupted into lines of trees and rich habitat. The margins imposed by the farming methods of generations has dissolved. Now the dance partners of trees, hedgerow and grass meld into each other as if claimed by a strong rhythm that some might call chaos. This painting came from sensing the re-emergence of this rhythm that had long been subdued’
