oil on canvas

This painting was bought 18 years ago by the current owner. Alice Fanner had a clear passion for the sea, having chosen a subject that was largely male dominated and orientated. Her love for the sea can be seen in the ‘treatment of the luminescence of the water her conviction and understanding of yachts under sail in a stiff breeze and its clever blend with her other passion for the landscape’. The owner was collecting paintings from the NEAC school at the time, for her championing of painting en plein air (amongst other things) brings with it a sense of atmosphere and presence.
